He spent weeks researching. He visited showrooms. He negotiated well. He thinks he broke the deal.
When a car buyer in Hyderabad walked out of a car showroom feeling confident about his negotiated price for a new car, he had no idea that a stranger in the front seat of a cab called on the phone – and everything changed.
The user visits showrooms, collects quotes, and checks prices. When the dealer came in at ₹10.15 lakh on-road, he negotiated a good deal and walked away with ₹9.55 lakh. On the way home, he called the shopkeeper to sort out the paperwork, while his cab driver listened.
“He casually asked what car I bought and what price I got” the buyer later wrote. The cab driver mentioned that he got a ₹1.6 lakh discount through a school friend who worked as a sales manager in several dealerships of the same car company.
The buyer then said, “I was jealous until he said, “Let him call me once.” About 15 minutes later, his friend called back and said “₹8.8L on-road for the same car. That’s guaranteed, some dealers will check and may reduce even more. “I was really shocked.”
Shortly after the anecdote went viral on Reddit, netizens quickly shared their reactions. One user wrote, “His friend got his commission too. Win win!”
“Damn this is a 1 in a million incident,” commented the second user.
“I think he deserves a ride in your new car (sic),” wrote a third user.
“Dealers have big fat commissions, and they don’t want to cut their margins unless necessary, like inventory aging or festival sales. They cover it with accessories or car service time,” said the fourth user.
But another user said, “Wow man…. Glad to hear something so positive to start my day (sic).”
