PlayStation Plus members usually get 3 free games each month with the base Essential tier (although some recent months have seen 4 games), and this may mean we don’t always get a chance to play all the games before a new series of Essential games are on their way. This unfortunately means that some games are overlooked, including those that many PS Plus subscribers may consider masterpieces.
Done Reddita user asked for recommendations for fast, fun games previously released on the Essential tier for PlayStation Plus. While a few have since been added to Extra or Premium, there are still a number of games you can play if you managed to add them to your library when they were free with Essential.
This PlayStation Plus Freebie is a true masterpiece
One of those recommendations was Cocoon2023 game from Annapurna Interactive, where you solve puzzles as you go through “worlds within worlds.” It’s from the same creators Inside, which had some tricky puzzles by itself. As noted by a large number of people who have played it, Cocoon is a slightly underrated masterpiece. However, it has been kind of overlooked by the larger audience, which is a real shame.
ScreenRant gave Cocoon favorable review back in 2023, praising its puzzles and mind-bending moments. The visuals were another highlight we pointed to, and in the years since, Cocoon it still holds up great. It’s a beautiful game that’s also a lot of fun, and if you’re looking for a shorter game to play this weekend, it’s pretty perfect for that sort of thing.
Cocoon can be beaten in one weekend
Cocoon is definitely one of those “short but sweet” games. How long you spend with him will probably depend on how well you can solve his puzzles, but you can still win easily Cocoon in one weekend. HowLongToBeat lists the average playtime for the main story as 5 hours, with 5.5 hours for both Main+Sides and Completionist.
If you’re not in a hurry Cocoon (or get confused a time or two), you can still beat the game in 7 hours or less. If you’re trying to 100% do it at a leisurely pace, you might end up spending 8-9 hours in the Cocoon. All of this is still easily doable in a weekend if you have some free time.
Even if you’re not trying to beat them all at once, Cocoon worth playing. Yes, it’s pretty quick to beat, but it’s such a wonderful game that you shouldn’t rush through it. No matter how you play, it’s a good time to check it out Cocoon if you grabbed it while it was on Essential monthly games with a PlayStation Plus membership.
