Rising river temperatures may weaken the river’s food base by changing the way air flows through water bodies. In a new study published in the journal Ecosphere, researchers from the University of Northern Arizona found that when water temperature increases, pathogens and aquatic organisms produce fallen leaves, branches, and bark faster, but a small fraction of this waste supports their growth and a small fraction is released into the water as carbon dioxide.
