Elon Musk He raised eyebrows on Friday when he suggested that the federal government paying citizens “universally high incomes” is the best way to deal with AI-related job losses.
Shortly after midnight on Friday morning, Musk posted on his X platform: “Achieving high incomes for all through checks from the federal government is the best way to deal with the unemployment caused by artificial intelligence.”
The proposal, still pinned to the top of his X account, refuted the idea: Payments will lead to inflation.
“The goods and services produced by AI/robots will far outpace the growth of the money supply, so there will be no inflation,” he wrote.

However, many economists disagree.
“He is dead wrong on this,” wrote Sanjeev Sanyal, a former senior economic adviser to India’s finance minister.

“The basic math of UHI (Universal High Income) doesn’t work. If everyone gets a high income check, then everyone is competing for the same homes, land, schools and lifestyle,” he posted on X.

Universal High Income (UHI) is a major leap forward from Yang’s universal basic income. While UBI can meet a person’s basic needs while continuing to work, many advocates of UHI promote a complete departure from the need for work.
