Disney launches Infinity Vision, definitely not IMAX

and Avengers: Doomsday and dune 3 Fighting for IMAX theaters on the same weekend, Disney loses. Both films will premiere on December 18, 2026, but only dune 3 You’ll get the full IMAX experience. Disney’s blockbuster lost its U.S. exclusivity and can only be released in IMAX format in “select international markets.” Maybe Disney can solve this problem through a simple scheduling compromise, who knows?

For now, we’re looking at a collision between two beloved series. So, at CinemaCon on April 16, Disney announced Introduction to Infinite Vision. This is a new certification for Premium Large Format (PLF) theaters, which are approved to provide the best viewing experience for showing Disney movies. The criteria mainly focus on large screens with laser projection and good sound.

You may find yourself thinking, Isn’t this IMAX? Well, you’re not entirely outrageous. The biggest difference is that IMAX offers an expanded ratio, and there’s no guarantee that Infinity Vision can match this experience. On the other hand, as it stands, Infinity Vision can help viewers identify which theaters are at least very close.

Of course, the reaction to this was mixed, with some fans laugh at the move. After all, putting a Disney seal of approval on an existing PLF theater inherently doesn’t do anything beyond general branding. Fans are concerned that the price increase is entirely based on marketing hype rather than actual quality.

Regardless, the weekend affectionately known as “Dune Days” is approaching. The official launch of Infinity Vision will coincide with the re-release of the expansion in September. Avengers: Endgamecontinuing the December release Avengers: Doomsday December 18th.
