The Quiet Things is an upcoming narrative game from Silver Script Games that tells an autobiographical story about studio founder Alyx Jones’ experiences with mental health and childhood abuse and trauma. It was due to be unveiled during tonight’s BAFTA Game Awards, but according to Jones, the trailer was pulled from the showcase at the last minute due to its content.
In a LinkedIn post, Jones says he was informed by phone call the night before the show that the Quiet things The trailer that had been cut for the ceremony was pulled because organizers said there was “not enough time to put in proper notices for the public.” Jones said when she offered to make more changes she was “ignored”.
What has bothered me so much is not just the decision, but as this happens to me time and time again, doors are closed because the subject matter may upset or make people uncomfortable. I have remained silent to maintain relationships. I’ve taken the hits. I tried not to burn bridges.
I’m sick of it.
The Quiet Things is deeply personal to me. It’s my story. It’s about trauma, abuse, survival and giving survivors a voice. It’s about people who are shut down and silenced, and what that does to them. So there is something deeply painful about reliving it now.
Art should make people feel something.
Jones posted the full trailer on his LinkedIn post, which we can’t embed here, but we do click through this link to see it We’ve reached out to BAFTA for comment on the situation and will update this story if we hear back.
