Offer details: from Apple AirTag (1st generation) pack of 4 it’s on sale for $60 (save $39) at Best Buy.

A few weeks ago, Apple released an update to its smallest gadget: the AirTag. The flagship tracker hadn’t been updated since its launch, so the launch of Gen 2 was a much-needed facelift.

Since its debut in 2021, Apple’s original Bluetooth tracker has been used to track the location of all kinds of devices. People use the device to track your luggage through an airport, as well as your keys, bags, wallets and other valuables that are usually misplaced.

AirTags Gen 2 received a noticeably louder speaker and an expanded location range. These AirTags also use the same Ultra Wideband chip as the iPhone 17 line, iPhone Air and Watch Ultra 3 and Watch Series 11.

Also: Apple’s new AirTag 2 is better in almost every way, for the same price

And all these updates are great. But if you want to add Bluetooth tracking to items in your home or on your person, and you’re not someone who loses items all over the world, the 1st generation AirTags he can handle it perfectly. You don’t need a larger range of locations to track your TV remote.

That’s what makes this deal at Best Buy so great. As retailers try to clear shelves to make way for the new AirTag Gen 2, the OGs are on sale for the lowest and best price I’ve ever seen for this 4-pack configuration.

Also: I left my AirTag within minutes of trying this Bluetooth tracker alternative; here’s why

I’m still making my own “old” AirTags to track my luggage, bags and more. I actually just changed the battery in the AirTag on my key fob.

The newest isn’t always the best choice when it comes to everyday functional technology, and there’s no reason to splurge when you don’t have to. Right now, I don’t need the enhanced features the Gen 2 offers, so I’ll save myself a few bucks and grab the Gen 1s on sale before summer travel. AirTags Gen 2 will still be available for me to buy (and probably at a better price) if I need them in the future.

How I rated this deal

This is the lowest I’ve ever seen the original AirTags sell for, especially in this pack of 4. They’re not the latest or greatest, but they still get the job done and offer fairly accurate Bluetooth tracking compatible with Apple’s Find My technology. These are a great scoop on the sale, especially if you plan to use them for items in your home or on your own.
