Walmart announced plans to remodel more than 650 of its stores across the United States, while also opening approximately 20 new stores in 2026 and early 2027.
The retail giant said Thursday that the plan builds on its commitment to open or renovate more than 150 new stores in 2024, while updating its existing store portfolio.
“The purpose of this investment is to create jobs, help strengthen the local economy and make shopping faster and more convenient for our customers,” Walmart said, adding that the new stores and renovations will drive construction jobs during the project while creating long-term roles in retail, pharmacy and store leadership.
Changes customers may notice include updated store Included are wider aisles and updated layouts, new displays with greater variety, more pickup and delivery service options (including express), updated interiors and exteriors and improved parking and landscaping, as well as new digital touchpoints to showcase the company’s online assortment to in-store shoppers.

The renovation will also update Walmart’s vision centers and pharmacies Private consultation rooms are available.
Walmart’s Neighborhood Market to expand Deli and hot bar selection, pharmacy delivery options, improved lighting and fixtures, and upgraded areas for completing online grocery orders.
Select Neighborhood Markets are being updated through a rapid renovation program designed to complete projects faster while minimizing disruption to customers.

Walmart customers seeking value drive sales growth
“Our goal is simple: We want shopping to feel easy, intuitive and connected, while continuing to deliver the everyday low prices our customers expect,” Walmart said.
The company’s announcement noted that this year it has opened stores in California’s East Valley, as well as in Apollo Beach, Jacksonville and villageFlorida. It also opened a Walmart Neighborhood Market in Ocala, Florida.
Later this year, Walmart said it will expand its Tucson, Ariz., supercenter and open a new super center In Celena, Texas. Walmart also noted that it will open nine new stores in 2025 in Alabama, California, Florida, New Jersey, Texas and Utah.

The retailer announced the store remodels and openings on Wednesday after announcing it would be completely redesigning its flagship Great Value label, covering nearly 10,000 food and home products.
The effort marks the brand’s first comprehensive refresh in more than a decade and is the largest private-label refresh in Walmart’s history.
