Trigger Warning: This article contains references to abortion, child loss, and sexual assault.

Warning! Outlander Season 8 spoilers ahead!

Outlander Season eight officially begins the journey to find answers about Faith Fraser. For five seasons we had no reason to believe that version of the story Outlander in the beginning he showed us that it was not true. We all watched Claire hold her dead baby in season two, after her tragic miscarriage in France. We then saw Jamie and Claire visit little Faith’s grave, saying their last goodbyes to the daughter they couldn’t raise. then, Outlander Season 7 came with the bombshell that the baby had somehow survived to adulthood.

U finale of Outlander season 7Claire learned that Fanny Pocock’s mother’s name was Faith. It naturally reminded her of the child she had lost so long ago, but that was just considered a coincidence. However, when Claire heard Fanny singing a nursery rhyme from the 20th century “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside,” which Claire sang to her stillborn child, began to connect the dots. The last piece of the puzzle was a mysterious visit from Master Raymond and Claire’s vision of blue wings.

Master Raymond apologized to Claire for something he was about to reveal, and Outlander implies that he was referring to the truth of faith.

This great upheaval Outlander The seventh season is original to the series, so even fans of the books by Diane Gabaldon had no idea how this would all shake out. All we could do was wait Outlander season 8 to give answers. Now that this latest installment of the romantic series has arrived, the truth has begun (very slowly) to seep out. There’s still a lot to learn, but here’s what we know so far.

Faith grew up and married the ship’s captain before being killed by pirates

Outlander season 8 episode 1“Soul of a Rebel”, wasted no time on his way to the great mystery of Faith. The first scene sees Jamie and Claire preparing to meet a man who we quickly learn is a pirate and smuggler. Through their conversation, it is revealed that the Frasers found this man through Mrs. Abbott, the lady in the brothel where Jane and Fanny Pocock grew up. At some point in between Outlander in seasons 7 and 8, they must have met with the woman to find out how she got these girls hired.

Mrs. Abbott told Jamie and Claire that Jane and Fanny had been sold by a man to pay off his debts in a brothel, and this secret meeting in Outlander Season 8 was their attempt to trick a man into revealing where he found the young girls and what happened to their parents. Jamie pretended to be interested in doing the same nasty business as the smuggler, and the man spilled it all.

The pirate reveals that he tried to hijack the ship from Captain Pocock, who brought his wife and two daughters. He admitted to slitting Pocock’s throat before raping Jane. The girl’s mother, who we know is Faith, desperately tried to save her children and was thrown into the sea. All this happened when Fanny was only about 5 years old, so about five to eight years before the event Outlander season 8. It only adds to the tragedy that Jamie and Claire only learn that Faith survived her childhood after her death as an adult.

Vera was raised by a lacemaker in Paris

Fanny Pocock is all smiles in Season 8 of Outlander

Although Jamie and Claire found out that Faith was Pocock died around the early 1770s when she was thrown overboard from her husband’s ship, they had no definitive confirmation that Fanny’s mother was their daughter. This changed to Outlander season 8 episode 7when Fanny told Claire that her grandmother was a lacemaker in Paris. Around the same time, Ian Murray, while on a trip, sent word that he had met the man who had interviewed Jane before her death and sent some of what he had recorded.

During Jane’s interview, she explained that when her parents were killed by pirates, their family was on their way to America to find the Lady Broch Tuarach in North Carolina. The lacemaker who raised Faith told her that this mysterious woman was her biological mother. So it seems Claire’s daughter was looking for answers. Of course, this adds to the bitterness that Faith died so soon before Claire found out that her child had survived childhood.

How Faith knew the song “I love to be by the sea” when she heard it as a baby

If there was any doubt that Faith Pocock was Claire and Jamie’s daughter after Jane mentioned Lady Broch Tuarach, it was dispelled during a flashback scene Outlander season 8, episode 7. At the end of this episode, we see Master Raymond in France, handing over baby Faith to a lacemaker. He explained that the child’s mother was ill and the father in prison, but that when the time came, Lady Broch Tuarach should be sought.

In Gabaldon’s books, Claire begins to suspect that Faith Pocock might be her lost child. However, when she brings up this theory to Jamie, he gently rebukes her. Gabaldon explained that she considered expanding the story with the revelation that Master Raymond somehow saved Faith, but ultimately decided against it. Starz’s Outlander picked up the idea and added Claire and Fanny’s lullaby to tie it together.

Then, when Faith started to protest, the the mysterious Master Raymond began to sing “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside”, just as Claire had learned to lace. Based on what we see in this episode, it sounds like Faith’s adoptive mother wanted her daughter to have a relationship with her biological family. So she must have raised little Faith on the song.

How Faith Could Survive After Being Stillborn in Outlander Season 2

Claire with Faith in Countlander

Outlander Season eight revealed a lot about Faith’s story, but there’s still one loud mystery. It is certain that Claire’s first child was stillborn. She kept the baby’s body inside for hours Outlander season 2 before her mother Hildegard took her to the funeral. StillMaster Raymond delivered a healthy, crying baby girl to a lacemaker in Outlander season 8 episode 7 flashback scene.

Earlier, in Outlander season 8, Claire magically healed a stillborn baby girl. No doubt this same kind of power is what brought Faith back from the dead. The big questions are when, why and how. U Outlander In the second season, Master Raymond appeared and healed Claire hours or days after little Faith’s body was taken away. He was then arrested and taken to a secret trial before the King of France.

If Master Raymond resurrected Faith, when could he have time? Why couldn’t he tell Claire the truth? Why did the nuns make a grave for Faith Fraser if the child was still alive? There is still so much left Outlander season 8 to reveal, although there is very little time left for that.
